Although there are slight differences between these areas as Kennington’s boundaries are not clearly defined, amenities are pretty much shared and reference is often made to Kennington Oval as a whole. The area stretching to include Vauxhall, is a multi-ethnic, mixed class area of South West London in the London Borough of Lambeth attracting young affluent newcomers and housing a number of MPs as it is situated within the Houses of Parliament Division Bell Zone.
Transport facilities include 4 tube stations on the Northern, Bakerloo and Victoria Lines and the nearest rail stations are Vauxhall and the Elephant and Castle for Central London and the City, north towards Luton and Bedford and South towards Kent.
There’s a wonderful choice of restaurants with very good reviews, check out Bonnington Café for innovative vegetarian food and atmosphere. Nightlife includes a number of reasonably priced bars and clubs providing anything from jazz and pop to tech trance parties and also a strong gay scene around Vauxhall.
There are two theatres (the White Bear Theatre and the Oval House), two museums (The Cinema Museum and The Imperial War Museum) two parks (Kennington Parks and Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens) and a Saturday Farmers plus Arts and Crafts Market in the area.
Not to mention the famous Oval Cricket ground, home to Surrey County Cricket Ground, so there’s more than enough to do for all tastes and all ages.
