Tooting, in South West London is a multi-cultural area with a long established Asian community in the Borough of Wandsworth renowned for the lowest council tax rates in London. Historically it is a working class area but in more recent years it has attracted many young professionals due to its greater affordability in comparison to neighbouring Clapham and Wandsworth.
It is serviced by two tube stations on the Northern Line and one rail station, with Victoria and Blackfriars just twenty five to thirty minutes away, Bedford to the North and Sutton to the South.
Tooting is famous for its outstanding curry houses and you can sit in one of the cafes on its busy High Road listening to a friendly exchange between residents of different cultures. The town centre has several roads housing over 500 shops and the largest indoor market in South West London where you can buy tropical fresh fruit and vegetables, African and Asian fabrics and clothes as well as fashion wear, have your astrological chart read or try out a New Age therapy, so you will not want for anything.
If you want trendy bars and nightclubs, Clapham is just 10 minutes away on the tube so what you save on housing costs you can spend on excellent entertainment a stone’s throw away.
In the summer, Tooting Common, an area of natural woodland, grassland, a fishing lake and ponds, provides the largest open space in the borough and you can also visit one of London’s only remaining Lidos.
