The Property Ombudsman

The government approved Ombudsman scheme is a resolutions scheme that is designed to achieve a full and final settlement of the dispute and all claims made by either party. The Ombudsman can, where appropriate, make compensatory awards in individual cases up to a maximum of £25,000 for actual and quantifiable loss and/or for aggravation, distress, and/or inconvenience caused by the actions of an agent.

Client Money Protect

Client Money Protect (CMP) is a government approved Client Money Protection Membership Scheme that protects any money held by their members on behalf of their clients should the member misappropriate it.  The business was formed in 2014 - originally as the UK’s first voluntary client money protection scheme outside of the traditional agent trade body organisations – and is also recognised in Scotland (under the Scotland Lettings Code of Conduct) and in Wales (under Rent Smart (Wales)). 

The aim is to provide the best protection for the clients of their Members, ensuring that that their money is safeguarded whilst in the custody of their agent and returned to them if the worst happens. Members are required to display our logo in their shop windows and commit to transparency of client money handling for all their customers.

My Deposits

Just like there are protection schemes in place for landlords and letting agents to protect their property and their rent, the tenancy deposit scheme aims to protect tenants. The deposit protection scheme was launched to safeguard tenants' deposits as a preventative measure to ensure their deposits cannot be withheld unfairly. The tenancy protection scheme, mydeposits, is one out of the three government approved UK schemes, designed to ensure legal obligations are fulfilled  and comply with deposit protection legislation. mydeposits is:

  • A government-authorised tenancy deposit protection scheme.
  • Jointly owned by the NLA and insurance experts, Hamilton Fraser.
